Boston Terriers: C-section or natural delivery?

I am not a veterinarian so please understand that my opinion on this is strictly from my own personal experience with my own dogs.

It is pretty common knowledge amoung dog owners/breeders that the majority of Boston Terriers deliver their litters by c-section. The reasoning behind this is concern that the pups heads will be to large for the bitch to deliver naturally.

I have bred and raised Bostons for years, and my grandfather raised them before that. None of our dogs have ever delivered by c-section. I watch these animals very closely anyway, but when whelping time nears they think I am their shadow. There have been several that I have had to help turn, and some I've even had to pull. But it is my honest opinion that many of the ones that have delivered by c-section, did so unnecesarily. Maybe it was fear on the owner/breeders part, or maybe it was done because that is what everyone thinks is the way to go.

Just give it some thought and do a little investigating before you subject your Boston to a surgery that she might not really need.
